The objective of the International Conferences on Hyperbolic Problems is to bring together scientists with interests in the theoretical, applied, and computational aspects of hyperbolic partial differential equations (systems of hyperbolic conservation laws, wave equations, etc.) and of related mathematical models (PDEs of mixed type, kinetic equations, nonlocal or/and discrete models, etc.).

The conference was first held in 1986 in St. Etienne (France) and has been organized since then biennially at different locations. The last few meetings were held at: 2018 Penn State (U.S.A.), 2016 Aachen (Germany), 2014 Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), 2012 Padua (Italy), 2010 Beijing (China), 2008 College Park (U.S.A.), 2006 Lyon (France).

The XVIII International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics and Applications was initially scheduled in June 22-26, 2020 in Málaga (Spain). The situation due to the Covid19 pandemic led the Organizing and Scientific Committees of HYP2020 to postpone the Conference and to organize:
