Crotone 2015

Simulation performed by EDANYA Group with Tsunami-HySEA code.

From Annunziato, "The Lefkada event of 17 Nov 2015 and the response of Crotone Port"

Earthquake:

Date: 17th November 2015 07:10
Mw: 6.4
Lat/Lon: 38.8°/ 20.4°
Location: LefkadaIsland, Greece.

Consequences:

  • local displacement and relocation with some damage to buildings and infrastructure
  • Small Tsunami wave that propagated in the Ionian Sea??
  • A sea level disturbance was measured in the port of Crotone, Italy, on the other side of the Ionian Sea, with a maximum amplitude of about 12 cm;
  • The peak amplitude was detected about 1 hour after the earthquake, much later than the expected travel time from the epicentre to the Crotone port, about 30 min.
  • This amplitude is not coherent with possible focal mechanisms (estimated values within few cm)

  •  At least sea level signal at Crotone
